Welcoming Both Beginners and Experts Alike

Mount Norikura’s summit reaches an elevation of 3,026 meters. That might sound daunting—but in fact, you can reach as high as 2,700 meters (Norikura Tatamidaira) by bus. Along the way, you’ll witness dramatic changes in the landscape as the forest thins and gives way to the alpine zone. Once at Tatamidaira, you can enjoy a variety of alpine plants unique to this elevation. From Tatamidaira, several trekking routes are available, including a roughly 100-minute hike to the main peak, Kengamine. For experienced hikers, there’s the option to ascend all the way from the foot of the mountain. For beginners or casual visitors, the bus offers a convenient head start. Mount Norikura is a welcoming mountain, where beginners and seasoned climbers can share the same trails. We hope that by experiencing a 3,000-meter-class summit, more people will be inspired to explore the world of mountain hiking. Please note: While it’s relatively accessible, this is still a nearly 3,000-meter mountain. Nature should never be underestimated. Always take care to avoid injury or accidents.

A Hill Climb Destination Every Cyclist Dreams Of

Since 1986, the Norikura Hill Climb has been held annually, making it Japan’s highest-altitude bicycle race. As a pioneer of hill climb events in the country, it’s one that many cyclists dream of participating in at least once. While similar races are held on Mount Fuji, Mount Norikura draws a strong following thanks to its higher elevation and the stunning transition in scenery—from lush forest to alpine zone as you ascend. Riders range from students to cyclists in their 70s, making it a truly inclusive event. Reisen Hutte offers a perfect base for cyclists: whether you’re training for the race, on a multi-day tour with friends, or simply looking for a restful stay in the mountains. And for friends and family who aren’t racing themselves, why not join the trip as a supporter? Reisen Hutte happens to be the only cheering point on the course, making it an ideal place to stay for an “応援旅” (cheering journey). Recently, e-Bike rentals have also become available at the Norikura Tourist Center. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a first-timer, we hope you’ll enjoy the experience of cycling through the breathtaking landscapes of Mount Norikura.
