How to Enjoy Reisen Hutte
Nourish Body and Soul Through Food / Embrace the Rhythm of Nature / Experience the Essence of “Less is More”
Nourish Body and Soul Through Food
After a long day of hiking or cycling, your body needs rest—and not just sleep. A nourishing, enjoyable meal is essential, too.
At Reisen Hutte, we offer food and drinks designed to be shared—whether you’re traveling solo, with friends, or as a family.
Guests can enjoy lunch available to all visitors, quick energy-packed snacks for hill climbers, and for overnight guests, dinners and breakfasts served under the concept of a “mountain hut bar.”
We use local ingredients such as fresh vegetables from Matsumoto and bread from nearby bakeries. Our drink menu includes natural wines and craft beers to complement and complete your dining experience.
True to mountain hut style, we also recommend our selection of charcuterie, including sausages, salami, and cured ham. Personally, I (Murata) have such a passion for good food that I’ve been known to pack sukiyaki pots, fresh eggs, beef, and even sake bottles into my hiking backpack—despite the mountaineering rule to keep gear as light as possible.
We also occasionally host food events featuring guest chefs, exclusively for overnight guests. We hope you’ll enjoy the heartfelt cuisine of Reisen Hutte, where we take good food seriously—without ever taking the joy out of it.
At Reisen Hutte, there is no electricity—so you experience light not just as illumination, but as a way to feel the dynamic presence of nature itself.
In the morning, your body awakens to the ever-changing colors of the sky as it gradually brightens. You might find yourself immersed in soft sunlight, gazing at the sea of clouds that drifts below.
At night, you can lie back in the parking area and look up to a sky filled with stars—a celestial show in stunning high resolution.
For those who climb, waking early and sleeping early often becomes a natural rhythm. But here, it’s not about discipline. It’s about surrendering—gently—to the flow of the day and night, as shaped by the sun.
We hope that this off-grid environment helps you reconnect with the natural rhythm of life, and that you’ll enjoy the quiet joy of simply following where nature leads.
Experience the Essence of “Less is More”
Originally built in 1980 (Showa 55), Reisen Hutte had a strong structural foundation and framework. However, key elements like the walls, roof, beams, and even the bridge connecting the hut to the road were in need of significant maintenance. During the renewal, we carried out a major renovation to meet both the environmental demands of the site and our vision of operating off-grid.
Leading the project was the architectural unit o+h, who not only reimagined the space but orchestrated the entire renovation with care and creativity. They approached the design with a dynamic perspective—balancing the unique conditions of Reisen Hutte’s location with our goal of creating a sustainable, peaceful retreat.
The upper floor is warm and open, designed to naturally encourage conversation among guests, even those who come alone. It's a bright, peaceful space that uplifts both body and spirit. The lower floor offers quiet rooms and a cozy library—spaces where you can sink into the stillness of the mountains.
At Reisen Hutte, time flows simply and richly. Even if you're not here for outdoor activities, we wholeheartedly welcome those who want to experience the architecture from a creative perspective. (And we’re always happy to share the full story of the renovation.)
